Most of us have too much crap in our lives. Stuff we stubbornly cling to ‘just in case’. Just in case someone asks us to go rollerblading. Or camping. Or for a Nokia charger. Or half a blender.
We all have them. Those sad looking items stuffed under the bed. Neglected in drawers we choose to ignore. Or stuffed in top cupboards we can’t even reach. Instruction manuals for appliances we no longer own. The tangled mess of wires, long since separated from their own devices. A Bread maker. A Swiss ball. A couple of digital photo frames. Still in their box.
Why do we insist on holding on to stuff we no longer need?
Just! In! Case!
Is it simply an attempt to convince others, and ourselves, that we are not the type to be wasteful? Are we scared of ‘letting go?’ Is good, old procrastination to blame? Or do we honestly believe that one day, we will actually sell that sh*t on ebay?
Truth is, my friend, it doesn’t really matter.
What does matter is that you’re holding on to ‘just in case’ items you’ll never need. They are taking up space. They are weighing you down. And, if you listen closely enough, you may even hear them begging to be donated, recycled or happily binned.
Can you imagine if we lived our whole life JUST IN CASE – making decisions just in case they were to leave us, or we don’t like it, or we get hit by a bus, or lose that bet, or end up getting laughed at, or worse still, hurt.
Just in case is for pussies. Go empty that drawer already!
