Instead of being a slave to your tech let it work in your favour for a change. Here are 5 Apps to help you get your happy on.
HEAD SPACE: Meditation. Pretty people do it (Gisele Bundchen), Successful people do it (Billionaire founder of the largest hedge fund management firm in the US), even I have started doing it (and I thought there was no way I could get out of my head and in to my body). If you are looking to lower your stress, manage pain or just get more focus in your day this app is the beginners (and beyond) route to giving it a go. It just takes 10 minutes a day and its free to start.
TOUCHNOTE: It’s scientifically proven (thanks Michael Steger, psychologist at the University of Louisville) that doing good things for other people makes you feel happier. So thank a colleague, cheer up a buddy or say something naughty to your lover by sending them a card. Touchnote makes it ridiculously easy to upload a photo on to a postcard format and send it direct to them. Yes – a real life card. That they receive in the post. Old School.
GRATITUDE JOURNAL: Complaining about stuff can often be our default setting. The bus is late, this coffee is crap, I hate my job. Guatama Buddha (spiritual leader on whose teachings Buddhism was founded) said ‘Pain is certain, suffering is optional’ or in other words life may give you lemons but it’s your decision to turn them into Limoncello (or not) that will make the difference. So stop your whinging and be grateful for what the world has sent your way. This App lets you record the good stuff to help rewire your brain to the positive. Namaste indeed.
HIFUTURESELF: Remembering things makes me happy. This cutely named reminder app allows you to text yourself (or others) reminders for a future date and time. Told your Mum who lives in the UK you would call her at 7am her time? Need a reminder to renew your driving licence tomorrow? Want to text your teenage daughter that its nearly her curfew and to head home (whilst you are asleep)? Write it now, send it later. Genius.
UBEREATS: Hungry? Craving that special dish from the place that doesn’t usually deliver? Uber have now navigated their way in to the food delivery space and it makes me happy. Why? Because you can order, track and pay for whatever it is you feel like on the app – from famished to full with minimal fuss.
This Get Happier post was brought to you by someone who thinks we all have way too many Apps in our life and should – as in all aspects of our lives – weed out the time wasters and the ones that suck our storage dry.
